Introduction: Babies with LBW are 4 times more likely to die during the first 28 days
of life than babies born with normal weight. In Indonesia, LBW is the second largest
type of disease related to tobacco use where the impact is a very determining factor in
adulthood. More than 57% in a household has at least one smoker where 91.8% smoke
in the household and ignore the risks and dangers of exposure to cigarette smoke.
Method: This research was conducted in all regions of Indonesia using Riskesdas 2018
results with the aim of knowing the effect of exposure to cigarette smoke in the
household on the incidence of Low Birth Weight (LBW) in Indonesia after being
controlled by baby (sex), maternal factors (level maternal education, maternal
employment status, and tuberculosis to the mother), health service factors (frequency
and quality of ANC) and environmental factors (residential area). This research was
conducted with cross-sectional design and logistic and poisson regression analysis.
Result: The results of the study with the final model of smoking behavior interacting
with gender and controlled by variables of maternal education level and frequency of
ANC in general showed that there was no effect of cigarette smoke exposure in
households with LBW events (although p value in female sex with exposure cigarette
smoke b 20btg less than 0.05, but OR 0.056 or protective).
Discussion: Based on the results of this study and a few reviews of the results of the
research that are in line concluded that birth weight is not solely influenced by a history
of exposure to cigarette smoke, but in certain conditions there are other factors that may
be more dominant. In this case it might be due to several factors such as the way data is
collected based only on interviews / questionnaires so that the measurement of cigarette
smoke exposure in the household is less able to describe the actual situation (the
measurement results are weak).
Conclution: Based on the analysis that has been used both using logistic regression
methods and poisson is that the results of this study have not been able to answer the
hypothesis that the effect of cigarette smoke exposure in households increases the
incidence of LBW in Indonesia in 2018 even after being controlled by covariate
variables
Low birth weight (LBW) really involved to the mother nutrient especially anemia and chronic malnutrition risk. The purpose of this research is to know the risk of chronic malnutrition influenced on pregnancy and another factor to LBW at district Sawahlunto-Sijunjung on 2007. This research was performed by secondary data analysis with case controls design with minimum sample amount was specified 228, Data were with chi square and multiple logistic regression. The observational result indicated there are influence on chronic malnutrition risk on pregnancy, ANC and mother age to LBW. The most dominant factor which is influence to LBW is chronic malnutrition risk on pregnancy with odds ratio 4,8 (95% Cl 2,48 - 9,42), it's mean is pregnancy with chronic malnutrition will face the risk 4,8 times to LBW compare to pregnancy with out risk chronic malnutrition after ANC and mother age controlled To avoid and settles chronic malnutrition risk on pregnancy which is expected could to reduce LBW and presses infant mortality. Recommend health district office to mothers to perform early detection on risk of chronic malnutrition on pregnancy passes through ANC, increasing elucidation (communication, information and education) to community, by performing the right treatment, commitment in evaluates program and feedback on regularly report, Advocate to Government, others institution.
ABSTRACT Name : Stevy Elisabeth Dame Simamora Study Program : Epidemiology Title : The Effect of Cigarette Smoke Exposure From Husbands In Women Aged 15-57 Years With Low Birth Weight In Indonesia (Advanced Data Analysis of IFLS V 2014) Counsellor : DR. dr. Sudarto Ronoatmodjo S.K.M., M.Sc In Indonesia based on the results of Riskesdas (Basic Health Research) in 2013 shows the national rate of LWB is about 10.2%. Based on a survey conducted by Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) in 2011, it was found that 67% of men in Indonesia smoke. (1) Meanwhile in 2011-2015 the prevalence of passive smokers exposed to cigarette smoke at home is about 78.4%, more than half of passive smokers are vulnerable groups such as women and toddlers. (2). Objective: This study to see the effect of exposure to husbands cigarette smoke with the LWB. Method: This study analyzed IFLS V data in 2014. A total of 1,599 people into the total sample because it has fulfilled the inclusion criteria, namely women aged 15 - 57 years with the last born birth of children in the period 2007-2015, Ever give birth. While the exclusion criteria are: data about husbans smoking history and covariate variable is incomplete, and mother is active smoker. Results: 73.5% of husbands were smokers. The proportion of infants with low birth weight born to mothers exposed to cigarette smoke from husbands in this study was 7.74%, and the proportion of bblr in mothers not exposed to cigarette smoke from husbands was 6.86%. There was no significant relationship between passive smoking in women aged 15-57 years with LWB incidence with 1.096 (95% CI 0.721-1.66) after controlled by antenatal care (ANC) visit variables. Conclusion: The effect of exposure to husbands smoke with the LWB after controlled by antenatal care (ANC) visit history variable is not significant. Although the factors that affect LBW are very numerous and complex, but this can be prevented early on. One of them through protecting people from exposure to cigarette smoke through prevention efforts and health promotion. Key words : LWB, passive smoker, IFLS
