Stunting is a serious problem, the real impact is the decline in the quality of young people in the future both physically and motorically which potentially affect the country's economy. The purpose of this study is to assess the determinant factor of stunting in toddlers aged 12-36 months in Tamansari, Bogor District, Indonesia. A cross-sectional study design was employed, with primary data from a total sample of 500 toddlers in the District and applied multivariate Cox Regression analysis. Our study shows that the prevalence of stunting in toddlers aged 12-36 months in Tamansari is 39.2%. The Multivariat analysis test results show factors determinant of stunting in Tamansari such as the history of breast feeding (PR=1.32), diarrhoeal disease (PR=1.40), energi intake (PR=1.35), mother’s education (PR=1.54) and mother’s age (PR=1.44). The researcher suggest that The Health Center and the Department of Health prevent stunting by apply exclusive breast feeding, healthy lifestyles and increase energy and protein intake such as eggs, tofu and tempe. Department of Education increasing the minimum of mother’s education with “kejar paket A-C”. National Family Planning Coordinating Agency and Religious Affairs Office increasing the minimum marriage age in accordance with Indonesian marriage law limitations at age of 19 years.
This study analyzes the relationship between the frequency of diarrhea episodes and stunting in toddlers aged 12-36 months in Tamansari sub-district, Bogor district in 2019. Stunting or often called dwarf or short is a condition of growth failure in children under five years due to chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections especially in the period of the First 1,000 days of life, from fetuses to children aged 23 months. The child is classified as stunting if the length or height is below minus two standard deviations. The prevalence of stunting in Tamansari subdistrict in 2019 is 23.01%. Cross sectional research method with cox regression analysis, primary data were taken in July 2019 in Tamansari sub-district, Bogor district from 50 active posyandu with a total sample of 441 toddlers, proportional random sampling technique. The results of the study were 163 (36.96%) stunting toddlers, there were 121 (27.44%) toddlers with diarrhea episode frequencies >1 time, the final cox regression analysis model showed a significant relationship between the frequency of diarrhea episodes with
stunting with a PR = 1 , 71 (95% CI: 1.24-2.34; p-value: 0.001) which means that toddlers with a frequency of diarrhea episodes >1 time have a chance of experiencing stunting 1.71 times higher when compared with toddlers whose frequency of diarrhea episodes ≤ 1 time after sanitation control and a history of exclusive breastfeeding.
Stunting is a public health problem that needs to be addressed both in Indonesia and the World. The real impact of this problem is hampered motor development, mental growth and increased risk of morbidity and death. One of the risk factors for stunting in children is the lack of nutritional intake of infants, especially exclusive breastfeeding. This study aims to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding with stunting in toddlers aged 12-36 months in Tamansari sub-district, Bogor district, 2019. The research design used was cross-sectional using primary data. The sample in this study amounted to 500 toddlers obtained by Proportional Random Sampling. This research was conducted in July 2019. Data collection was carried out by measuring height, body length, interviews with questionnaires and food recall. Stunting status was assessed based on the TB / U indicator <-2 z-score. The analysis used in this study uses multivariate cox regression analysis and the magnitude of the effect is expressed in the prevalence ratio (PR) with a 95% confident interval (CI). The results showed that the prevalence of stunting in toddlers aged 12-36 months in Tamansari sub-district, Bogor district in 2019 was 39.2%. The results of multivariate analysis showed that toddlers who were not given exclusive breastfeeding had a chance of 1.37 (95% CI: 1.03-1.83) times stunting compared to toddlers who were given exclusive breastfeeding after being controlled by maternal education and toddler calorie intake. It is necessary to improve maternal education at least high school and to provide toddlers food intake that is high in energy and protein and affordable by the community.
