Food security is a condition when everyone can access safe and nutritious food for an active and healthy life. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupts food security due to its adverse socio-economic impact, which causes food insecurity. Food insecurity is related to poor diet quality. This study aims to determine the factors related to household food security during the COVID-19 pandemic and its relation to the consumption habits among students at SMAN 1 and SMAN 2 Liwa, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. This quantitative research with a cross-sectional design uses secondary data. The sample of this study was 207 high school students (aged 14-17 years) and their mothers. Data analysis was univariate and bivariate using the chi-square test. The results showed 51,2% of households experienced food insecurity. The results of statistical analysis showed that the father's occupation as a non-civil servant (OR = 4,115), the parent's monthly income during the COVID-19 pandemic was less than the District Minimum Wage (UMK) (OR = 4,115), father's education and mother's education was less than or equal to junior high school (OR = 1.739 and 1.843) had a significant relationship to household food insecurity. This study also found that household food insecurity was significantly related to the habit of not frequently consuming animal protein sources (OR = 2.569), milk and its processed products (OR = 7.098), and fast food (OR = 0.562) in students. Food security programs should be focused on vulnerable targets, namely households with fathers and mothers with low education and income below the UMK. It is recommended to raise chicken and fish as a source of animal protein consumption for food insecurity households. The Food Security Agency can collaborate with the Animal Husbandry Agency to develop the dairy cows industry to increase milk production.
Daftar bacaan : 36 (1971 - 2001)
Factors Related to Existence of Aedes Larva in Household Water Container in Sub-district of Bekasi Selatan, in 2001Bekasi is one of the most endemic areas for DHF (Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever) in Sawa Barat province. Among 8 sub-districts in Bekasi, Bekasi Selatan is the only sub-district with a trend of continuous increase of incidence rate (per 100,000 population). Bekasi Selatan had the highest population density in 1998, and therefore requirement for clean water supply became increasing. The reported data showed that in 1998, the proportion of population using clean water supply (ledeng) was just 12.8%, compared to 60.5% for pumped well water. In the previous year (1997) it was reported that 5.4% of population used clean water supply, while 62.6% still used pumped well water. Because of frequent use of well water, people tend to save the water in a container, which in turns may increase breeding places for Aedes aegepty.Although there has not been any study conducted to investigate the relationship between density of mosquito larva and DHF incidence in Bekasi,_ it is presumed that the Aedes larva density in Bekasi, especially in sub-district of Bekasi Selatan, is quite high. Therefore it is interesting to study factors related to existence of Aedes larva in household water container, knowing that this kind of study had not been done in Bekasi. This study was aimed to know if several factors, such as position, material, color, lid availability, function, cleaning frequency of water container were associated with Aedes Iarva existence. In this cross-sectional study, 240 samples were collected using two-stage cluster sampling method. Study population was all water containers in the households in sub-district of Bekasi Selatan, while samples were water containers in the households selected randomly with a criteria of not using abate powder or any chemical substance (for killing the larva) within at least the past 3 months.Study results showed that among 6 variables investigated, only 3 were significantly associated with Aedes larva existence, i.e. position, lid availability and cleaning frequency of water container. The likelihood to find larva in indoor water container was 4.74 times higher than the corresponding likelihood in outdoor container (95% CI: 2.68 - 8.73). Compared with water container with lid, the likelihood to find the larva in water container without lid was 4.12 times higher (95% CI: 2.05 - 8.28). Water containers cleaned less frequently (once in more than a week) were more likely (2.08 times) to have larva thanwater containers cleaned more frequently (95% CI: 1.11 - 3.91). Although in bivariate analysis material or function of water container showed some associations with larva existence, in multivariate analysis no associations were found. Color of water container did not even show any association in bivariate analysis. Our results suggested that awareness of DHF outbreak possibility must be enhanced. Dissemination of information concerning the continuation of using water container with lid and frequent cleaning of it (at least once a week) was also recommended.Reference list: 36 (1971 -- 2001)
