Hajj is a pilgrimage carried out by Muslims worldwide at a specified time and place. In 2023, a total of 1,845,045 people from various countries participated in this pilgrimage, including 211,386 pilgrims from Indonesia. Most of the activities during Hajj are physical, coupled with external stressors such as hot weather and intense sunlight, making health a critical factor for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. The health criteria for pilgrims are determined based on health feasibility (istithaah kesehatan). In 2023, there was a significant increase in the mortality rate of pilgrims compared to previous years, reaching 798 people, with 42% of these deaths (336 individuals) caused by cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, a cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from the Integrated Hajj Health Computerization System (SISKOHATKES) to determine the influence of risk factors on the mortality of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims due to cardiovascular diseases. The results of the multiple logistic regression analysis showed that age, gender, body mass index, hypertension status, and diabetes mellitus status significantly affected the mortality of pilgrims due to cardiovascular diseases, while smoking status and education level did not have a significant influence.

Abstrak: A tailored health promotion program was developed and applied to reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors among middle-aged and advanced-age bus drivers. The participants were 248 bus drivers from 2 transportation companies, in whom the authors surveyed health behaviors (physical activity, diet, smoking habit, and alcohol consumption), health status (body mass index, systolic blood pressure, triglycerides, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, and low-density lipoprotein), and job stress. The tailored health promotion program consisted of exercise, diet, temperance, and smoking cessation education; the program was developed to reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors and was administered for 6 months. After the program, health behaviors, such as physical activity, dietary habits, smoking habits, and alcohol consumption, and health status indicators, such as blood pressure, had significantly improved (P < .05). The authors did not find an association between job stress and health behavior and status. This suggests that a tailored health promotion program for middle-aged and advanced-age bus drivers was effective.
