This thesis explored the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) implementation in the above hospital. The purpose of this research was to asses and identify both the problems and obstacles faced in the implementation of the KMC in the hospital. This study employed a qualitative researchdesign using the method of observation and in-depth interviewsand useda Rapid Assesment Procedure (RAP) design. The results of this research showed that all informants(six mothersof low birth weight babies/LBWB ) practiced the intermitten KMC in the hospital and only 2 informantsundertaken the KMC until the baby's reach birth weight of 2500 grams. The research’sresults suggests to optimize the KMC among the LBWB by improving the quality of human resources through increasing the number of nurses/midwives trained on KMC counseling. This is particularly important especially for nurses in perinatology room.It is also recommended to improve infrastructure and facilities by adding the KMC room facilities beds for counseling. In addition, rooming in for both mother and baby is also endorsed. The Implementation of the KMC in the hospital should also work together with the district health office to develop an effective KMC referralservice. This effort is utmosst important support sustainability of implementation of KMC among LBWB in the above hospital.
