Escherichia coli is a commonly used bacteria as a parameter related to fecal contamination and sanitation. The presence of nitrate in water is also an indicator related to sanitation. Several studies show that sanitation can affect concentration of TDS (Total Dissolve Solids) in groundwater. So, the presences of E. coli, nitrate, and TDS in groundwater that used as daily needs household drinking water can affect human health. This study aims to analyze the relationship between seven household sanitation conditions and the quality of household drinking water from groundwater based on the presence of E. coli, nitrate, and TDS as the parameters. The sanitation conditions include 7 aspects, such as defecation facilities, faecal disposal sites, the distance between feces disposal sites and drinking water sources, household waste disposal sites, the distance between household and temporary storage sites (TPS)/Final Processing Sites (TPA), household waste water disposal facilities, and the distance between household waste water disposal facilities and drinking water source. This research uses secondary data with a cross sectional analysis method. The analysis was carried out with univariate test and bivariate test using chi square test with a confidence level of 90%. The research results showed that there was significant relations between faecal disposal sites and TDS (p=0.086), waste disposal sites and E. coli (p=0.054), the distance to the nearest waste disposal sites and TDS. Therefore, the suggestions for further researcher to analyze the relations with health.
The quality of drinking water is a critical determinant of public health, particularly in densely populated urban areas. Waterborne diseases remain a major global health concern and are estimated to contribute to over 2.2 million deaths annually. This study aims to identify the distribution of drinking water quality by region, assess the level of drinking water quality, and evaluate its impact on public health in Depok City, West Java. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were obtained from field surveys previously carried out by the Depok City Health Office through structured interviews and laboratory testing of water samples. Drinking water quality data from 570 households were analyzed using correlation and spatial analysis. The results showed that approximately 97.5% of household water samples in Depok did not meet drinking water quality standards during the study period. About 94.1% of the water samples used for drinking had the potential to cause waterborne diseases. The factor significantly associated with waterborne diseases was types of occupation (p-value = 0.003). These results highlight the need for the local government of Depok City to implement routine water quality monitoring and enhance public awareness campaigns regarding safe drinking water management practices, as part of broader efforts to improve community health outcomes.
H2S is dangerous compound that colorless and has smell like rotten egg. One of this compound source is produced from decomposition process in landfill. The most sensitive body system when exposed to H2S is respiratory system. This study aims to analyze the effect of H2S intake to respiratory symptoms at people living around the Cipayung Landfill. This study design uses cross sectional. Data collection was carried out by interview by questionnaire and measure H2S ambient at 9 poimts locate aroundd community settlements. The result were found intake of H2S associated with respiratory symptoms (p value=0,012; OR=10,5; CI 95%=1,25-88,02). The result of multivariat analysis were found H2S intake influence respiratory symptoms after controlled by duration living variable (p value=0,026; OR=6,78; CI 95%= 1,612-64,572). It needs to measure routine H2S ambient and ensure that concentration was safe as well as proper management efforts from City Government of Depok, Cipayung Landfill and related stakeholders in order to reduce the health risk problems to the people living around Cipayung landfill.
