Low Birth Weight (LBW) is weight at birth less than 2500 grams, is a complex syndrome that includes premature birth, small babies for gestational age (small for gestational age = SGA) or a combination of the two. LBW is associated with fetal and neonatal death and morbidity, inhibits growth and development and increases the risk of future infectious diseases.
The aim of this study is to see the effect of anemia on pregnant women on LBW, with a case control study design. This study used medical records from the Arga Makmur Regional General Hospital (RSUD), the population of this study is mothers who gave birth to babies in Arga Makmur Regional General Hospital (RSUD), North Bengkulu in 2017 - 2018. The sample of this study consist of 126 mothers gave birth with LBW as a case and 126 mothers gave birth with normal birth weight (> 2500grm) as a control.
The results of the study on the proportion of LBW with pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester is 46.83%, higher than the proportion of normal birth weight with pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester of 34.13%. OR 1.70 (95% CI: 1.009 - 2.86) Pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester are at risk for LBW 1.70 times greater than for third trimester pregnant women with normal Hb levels.
