Organic dust exposure is one of the presented risk factor at PT X's instant noodle ingredient factory. Influence that could be raised by organic dust exposure is disorder of labor'lung. The research purpose is to recognize whether dust influence the affection of labor' lung disorder or other factors related to the labor himself such as the characteristic of social demography, nutrition condition, smoking habit, usage of safety equipment, or environmental factor at working place. This research is conducted with Cohort Study with 949 samples, design in order to recognize incident and to trace the disorder historical of labor lung by using periodical medical check-up report since 1995. Cross Sectional Study Design with 647 samples is also performed in order to recognize entire factor that could cause disorder of labor lung by using medical check-up report in 2001 as well as questioner. Furthermore, calculation of dust level was performed at exposure working place and non-exposure working place.Result and Conclusion: Data compilation result of Retrospective Cohort Study, checked by statistics test, shows that there is increasing of incident starting form 0.33 in 1999 to become 0,54 in 2001 and increasing of relative risk toward labor working at exposure working place whose suffer from restriction" starting from 1,186 in 1999 to become 1,611 in 2001. Whereas, Cross-sectional Study data, checked by statistics test, shows that there is a significant relation between organic dust exposure and disorder of labor lung healthiness in form of chronic phlegm OR 1,463 ; p 0,0045 ; CI 95% 1,008 - 2,124 and chronic cough OR 1,744 ; p 0,002 ; CI 95% 1,222 - 2,477.
The complexity of the machinery and equipment manufacturing industry involves various types of production processes, one of which is welding work. Welding is one of the most important industrial processes in joining metal or steel components. Various hazards found in the welding process such as welding metal sparks, welding sparks, welding fumes emissions, and manual handling during work pose risks to occupational safety and health for workers. This study aims to identify and assess occupational safety and health risks in the welding work process in the PT XYZ fabrication area. The hazard and risk identification stage is carried out qualitatively through observation, brainstorming activities, interviews, and reviewing company documents using the Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP Study). After that, a semi-quantitative risk assessment analysis was carried out by assessing the multiplication of probability and severity criteria based on PT XYZ's risk assessment matrix. The results showed that there were 12 stages of the welding work process. Identified 52 hazards with 49 risks from the welding work process. The level of risk obtained includes 23 risks with very high categories, 9 risks with high categories, and 17 risks with moderate categories. Risk assessment involves risk control so that the value of the risk level can be reduced through existing controls and control recommendations provided by researchers.
One of the causes of lung function disorder in health problems is coal dust exposure. This study aims to describe the relationship of coal dust exposure and lung function disorder in workers. The method used cross-sectional design with a sample of 72workers. Lung function disorder data is obtained from the company health data. Theresults of this research showed that the restriction of pulmonary function disorder 8.3%,obstruction 2,8%, and a combination of restriction and obstruction 2.8%. Bivariate analysis showed lung function disorder associated with year of work experience(p=0,46). However, coal dust exposure, age, and the using of respiratory protectiveequipment showed there is a tendency to get risk for lung fungtion disorders.
Introduction: Comorbid Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the risk factors for Coronavirus Diseases (COVID-19) mortality. Aim of this study is to determine the association of comorbid diabetes mellitus and COVID-19 mortality among COVID-19 confirmed cases in DKI Jakarta for period March-August 2020, after being controlled with confounding variables. Methode: The study design is a retrospective cohort. The inclusion criteria are confirmed cases of COVID-19 with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) reported to the DKI Jakarta provincial health office, with complete variables. Exclusion criteria is pregnant women. Of the total 41,008 cases in the Jakarta provincial health office's COVID-19 report, there are 30,641 cases that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 1,480 samples in this study are taken from all (740) COVID-19 cases with comorbid DM and 740 COVID-19 cases without comorbid DM which are taken through simple random sampling of 29,901 COVID-19 cases without comorbid DM. The data were analyzed using cox proportional hazard regression. The study result indicates that the crude association between DM and mortality among COVID-19 confirmed cases is Crude Hazard Ratio (CHR) 7,4 (95% CI 4,5-12,3, pValue < 0,001). While association between DM and mortality among COVID-19 confirmed cases after being controlled by covariates (hypertensive comorbidities and age groups (> 50 years and < 50 years) is 3.9 (95% CI 2.2- 6.8, p Value <0.001), which means that COVID-19 cases with comorbid DM have a 3.9 times risk of death. Discussion: The results of this study are in line with other studies that indicate DM co- morbidities increase the risk of death from COVID-19. To reduce the incidence of death in COVID-19 cases with comorbid DM, a strategy for preventing and treating COVID- 19 with triage and special attention is needed for rapid and prompt management and monitoring for COVID-19 cases with comorbid DM.
