Semakin rendah IMT, semakin tinggi risiko gangguan kepadatan tulang.
Bone density disorder (osteoporosis and osteopenia) is a major public health problem caused by multifactor. The purpose of this study was to find out factors related to adult bone density disorder (30-55 years of age) in the selected urban and rural area, West Java Province, 2012. It used cross-sectional method and the sample was 142 respondents. The data was taken on May-June 2012 in Pesona Khayangan, Kecamatan Sukmajaya, Kota Depok as the urban area and Desa Pabuaran, Kecamatan Gunung Sindur, Kabupaten Bogor as the rural area. Prevalence of bone density disorder in this study was 31,7% (4,2% osteoporosis and 27,5% osteopenia).
Bivariate analysis showed higher proportion of bone density disorder in respondent aged ≥50 years (p-value=0,047) and BMI <23,49 kg/m2 (p-value=0,003). Multivariate analysis verified that respondent with BMI <23,49 kg/m2 will 5,5 times higher to have bone density disorder than respondent with BMI >27,36 kg/m2 and respondent with BMI 23,49-27,36 kg/m2 will 2,2 times higher to have bone density disorder than respondent with BMI >27,36 kg/m2 after controlled by age, vitamin D and protein intake variable.
In this study, BMI is the most related factor of bone density disorder after controlled by age, vitamin D and protein intake variable. The lower BMI, the higher risk of bone density disorder.
Central obesity or abdominal obesity is a body condition that experiences fat accumulation in the middle of the abdomen (intra-abdominal fat) which is a major factor in the incidence of cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. The prevalence of central obesity continues to increase, including in Jakarta. Various studies show that a vegetarian diet has a lower risk of central obesity. Meanwhile, research on central obesity in vegetarian groups in Indonesia is still limited. This study aims to determine the prevalence of central obesity and the relationship between the type of vegetarian diet and other factors related to central obesity in a group of vegetarian and non-vegetarian adults aged 20-59 years at the Maitreyawira Buddhist Education and Training Center and the Prajna Dhyana Vihara Jakarta in 2024. This research was conducted using a cross-sectional method involving 139 respondents. Data collection was carried out from March to April 2024 using the purposive sampling method. The results showed that 51.8% of respondents were classified as central obese with the proportion of central obesity in non-vegetarians (70.0%) compared to vegetarians (46.8%). The results of bivariate analysis showed a relationship between vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets (p-value 0.041), age (p-value 0.001), marital status (p-value 0.011), energy intake (p-value 0.002), protein intake ( p-value 0.034), fat intake (p-value ≤0.001), physical activity (p-value ≤0.001), snacking habits (p-value 0.004), and sleep duration (p-value ≤0.001) with central obesity. However, it is not related to gender, education level, carbohydrate intake, fast food consumption habits, sweet foods/drinks, and fried foods.
Hypertension is a major health problem in Indonesia, with serious consequences such as stroke and coronary heart disease if not treated immediately. In recent years, hypertension has been increasingly common in young adults, especially those aged 25-34 years. The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with the incidence of hypertension in young adults in West Java Province in 2018 and preventive measures through risk factor control. The study design used was cross-sectional with a sample of 1,059 respondents aged 25-34 years in West Java. Data analysis was carried out using a computer set. Based on the results of data analysis, 22.7% of respondents had hypertension, with systolic hypertension of 9.8% and diastolic hypertension of 20.6%. Female respondents had a higher prevalence of hypertension (27.2%) compared to male respondents (21.8%). Factors significantly associated with hypertension included gender (p=0.001), body mass index (BMI) (p=0.000), and smoking habits (p =0.001). For systolic hypertension, significant factors were BMI (p=0.001), high-fat food consumption (p=0.002), smoking habit (p=0.004), and stress (p=0.024), while for diastolic hypertension, significant factors included gender (p=0.000), BMI (p=0.000), sodium intake (p=0.015), and smoking habit (p=0.000). BMI was identified as the dominant factor. High BMI increased the risk of hypertension threefold (OR=3.003). Further studies are recommended to explore other factors associated with hypertension and increase public awareness of preventive measures, such as controlling salt intake, maintaining BMI, reducing high-fat food consumption, especially targeting young adults.
