Low birth weight (LBW) become the most common cause of neonatal death each year in Indonesia. The 2017 IDHS data reports that the average proportion of LBW cases is 6.98%, which is below the target of the 2015–2019 RPJMN. Several studies have shown that unintended pregnancy is one of the factors that have significant effect on LBW. Unintended pregnancy in Indonesia has increased from 14% (2012) to 15% (2017). As one of the factors that can increase the risk of health problems in infants, adverse events must be preventable, and preventing them is one of the components to achieve the UN's 5th SDGs, that is improving maternal health. This study aims to determine the relationship between unintended pregnancy and the incidence of low birth weight in Indonesia.
Background: LBW infants are at higher risk of death and health problems during their developmental period, such as stunting. The trend of LBW prevalence shows a decrease, but the annual average decrease in LBW prevalence in Indonesia has only reached 0.73% and has not met the global target set by WHO. East Nusa Tenggara is a province that has consistently experienced an increase in the percentage of children born alive with LBW since 2021. The infant mortality rate in East Nusa Tenggara (25.67 per 1,000 KH) is also still higher than the national average in 2020. This study aims to identify the determinants of the incidence of LBW infants in East Nusa Tenggara by highlighting maternal sociodemographic and the household environment factors. Methods: This study used secondary data (Susenas 2023) with a total study sample of 1,599 infants. Data will be analyzed univariate, bivariate with chi-square test, and multivariate with multiple logistic regression test. Results: Based on multivariate analysis, factors associated with the incidence of LBW babies in East Nusa Tenggara are maternal age, maternal employment status, marital status, place of childbirth, insurance ownership, place of residence, and household food security. The most dominant factor was marital status (p-value = 0.001; AOR = 1.476; 95% CI = 1.369 - 1.592). Conclusion: The group of unmarried mothers needs to be one of the main concerns in efforts to reduce the prevalence of LBW in East Nusa Tenggara.

From 2012-2015, the percentage of LBW has not shown a significant decrease. LBW in Indonesia is the main cause of neonatal death. One of the most important factors of LBW is adolescent pregnancy. Based on the 2017 IDHS, the incidence of LBW in Indonesia is more prevalent among mothers who become pregnant at the age of adolescent. Meanwhile, the results of the 2002-2017 IDHS show that adolescent pregnancy is more prevalent in rural Indonesia. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association between adolescent pregnancy and LBW in rural Indonesia. This study used a cross-sectional study design using the 2017 IDHS data. The sample in this study is WUS who had given birth and only had 1 child. Based on the results of the analysis, there was an association between LBW and adolescent pregnancy, ANC, Fe supplementation, and pregnancy complications. The results of multivariate analysis showed that mothers who became pregnant at the age of 15-19 years had a greater risk of giving birth to LBW babies after controlling for the variable of ANC. It can be concluded that the incidence of adolescent pregnancy affects the incidence of LBW in rural Indonesia, so government efforts are required to reduce the incidence of adolescent pregnancy

Low Birth Weight (LBW) contributes to neonatal morbidity and mortality, making it an important indicator of maternal and child health. The 2018 Riskesdas data and the 2023 SKI reveal that the LBW prevalence in Indonesia has not significantly decreased, with regional variations, indicating the need for research on the regional determinants of LBW. This cross-sectional study uses secondary data from SKI 2023, analyzed across five regions in Indonesia using chi-square tests and logistic regression. The results show regional variations in LBW proportions, with Sulawesi having the highest and Sumatra the lowest prevalence. In Sumatra, factors associated with LBW include anemia, placenta previa, multiple pregnancies, prematurity, and interactions between multiple pregnancies and complications. In Java-Bali, factors associated with LBW include parity, pregnancy complications, multiple pregnancies, gender, prematurity, and the interaction between prematurity and multiple pregnancies. Kalimantan's related factors are maternal age, parity, complications, and interactions between multiple pregnancies, gender, and prematurity. In Sulawesi, factors related to LBW include maternal socioeconomic status, education, parity, iron supplement consumption, complications, placenta previa, multiple pregnancies, gender, and prematurity. Papua, Maluku, and Nusa Tenggara show associations with socioeconomic status, parity, complications, and interactions between multiple pregnancies and prematurity. Regional-based interventions are needed to improve maternal health services, especially in Sulawesi, with a focus on key risk factors such as multiple pregnancies, prematurity, and anemia.

Indonesia still faces a public health problem with low birth weight (LBW) being the main cause of neonatal mortality. Global nutrition targets have not been met and the prevalence of LBW has not decreased significantly. LBW can be caused by multiple reasons, including hypertension in pregnancy. This study aims to relationship of hypertension in pregnancy in mothers who conduct ANC visits with LBW babies in Indonesia. This research was conducted using a cross-sectional study design and used Basic Health Research data for 2018. The sample of this study were women aged 15-49 years who had given birth in the last 5 years prior to the survey. The data will be analyzed by univariate, bivariate and stratification. This study found that mothers who experience hypertension in pregnancy will have a higher risk of giving birth to babies with LBW than mothers who do not experience hypertension in pregnancy (OR=1.54; 95% CI: 1.036 – 2.304). Stratification analysis found that a mother's age, mother's education, area of residence, number of ANC visits, history of abortion, Fe supplementation, smoking exposure, and the baby's sex were confounding variables. This study conclude that there is a relationship between hypertension in pregnancy in mothers who visit ANC with LBW babies.

ASEAN countries is the second highest incidence of low birth weight (LBW) in Asia, accounting for approximately 12.3% of LBW cases in Asia. Antenatal Care (ANC) is one of the most important preventive measures in reducing the incidence of LBW. The study aimed to analysis the association of the early Antenatal Care visit and quality of ANC services, towards LBW incidence. This study used Demographic and Health Survey data (20142017) in four ASEAN countries. This study used a cross-sectional design with multiple logistic regression analysis. The proportion of LBW in Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Philippines was (6,7%), (6,7%), (7,5%), and (13,8%), respectively. The results showed that early visit did no effect on the incidence of LBW (aOR = 1,0; CI 95%: 0,91,1). However, quality of ANC services had an association with LBW incidence (aOR=1,3; CI 95%:1,11,5). Myanmar had the highest odds ratio of LBW, in which the odds of LBW for mothers that received < 4 visits, 6 incomplete components was 1.7 times higher compared with mothers that received ≥ 4 visits, 6 complete components (OR = 1.7; 95% CI:1.0-2.7). Early antenatal care visit is not enough to reduce the risk of LBW, however consistent results in each county that the improvement of quality of ANC services for reducing the risk of LBW.

Introduction: Babies with LBW are 4 times more likely to die during the first 28 days
of life than babies born with normal weight. In Indonesia, LBW is the second largest
type of disease related to tobacco use where the impact is a very determining factor in
adulthood. More than 57% in a household has at least one smoker where 91.8% smoke
in the household and ignore the risks and dangers of exposure to cigarette smoke.
Method: This research was conducted in all regions of Indonesia using Riskesdas 2018
results with the aim of knowing the effect of exposure to cigarette smoke in the
household on the incidence of Low Birth Weight (LBW) in Indonesia after being
controlled by baby (sex), maternal factors (level maternal education, maternal
employment status, and tuberculosis to the mother), health service factors (frequency
and quality of ANC) and environmental factors (residential area). This research was
conducted with cross-sectional design and logistic and poisson regression analysis.
Result: The results of the study with the final model of smoking behavior interacting
with gender and controlled by variables of maternal education level and frequency of
ANC in general showed that there was no effect of cigarette smoke exposure in
households with LBW events (although p value in female sex with exposure cigarette
smoke b 20btg less than 0.05, but OR 0.056 or protective).
Discussion: Based on the results of this study and a few reviews of the results of the
research that are in line concluded that birth weight is not solely influenced by a history
of exposure to cigarette smoke, but in certain conditions there are other factors that may
be more dominant. In this case it might be due to several factors such as the way data is
collected based only on interviews / questionnaires so that the measurement of cigarette
smoke exposure in the household is less able to describe the actual situation (the
measurement results are weak).
Conclution: Based on the analysis that has been used both using logistic regression
methods and poisson is that the results of this study have not been able to answer the
hypothesis that the effect of cigarette smoke exposure in households increases the
incidence of LBW in Indonesia in 2018 even after being controlled by covariate
variables
