Indonesia is an archipelago with a variety of ethnic groups that have cultural diversity. Various cultural values embraced greatly influence the behavior patterns of adherents of the culture, one of which is Sundanese culture that highly respects of parents. The development of Sundanese culture sensitive family nursing models is based on the background of family behavior patterns in Sundanese people who tend to indulge in habits that risk increasing blood sugar of elderly with DM to please their parents.The aim of the study is to find out the effectiveness of the model to improve family support in controlling blood sugar to elderly with DM. This research uses operational research design through 2 (two) stages of research, namely; Stage I: development of Sundanese culture sensitive family nursing models as a result of the integration of literature study, result of preliminary study and expert consultation; Stage II: Model effectiveness test with quasi-experimental pre- posttest with control group with a total sample of 114. The results of the study are obtained; Stage I: produced Sundanese culture sensitive family nursing model with module, workbook and training curriculum; Stage II: there are significant differences among caring behavior (knowledge, attitude, and skill), family support (informational, instrumental, appreciation and emotional support;), and elderly with DM blood sugar levels between 3 months and 6 months measurement after the application of the model. Conclusion: Sundanese culture sensitive family nursing model effectively improves caring behavior with a large contribution to attitude, effectively improves family support by contributing greatly to information support and effectively reduces blood sugar level so this model is expected to be replicated with various languages which are adjusted to local culture condition and introduced to the students by integrating into the nursing education curriculum
Latar belakang: Penyakit TB Paru adalah penyakit menular langsung yang disebabkan oleh Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. Lebih dari 90% kasus TB Paru ditemukan di negara berkembang. Di Indonesia penyakit TB Paru masih menjadi masalah utama kesehatan masyarakat. Di Kabupaten Muaro Jambi jumlah penderita TB Paru pada tahun 2003 adalah 61.84 per 100.000 meningkat menjadi 106.16 per 100.000 penduduk pada tahun 2004. Peranan faktor lingkungan fisik dalam rumah menentukan penyebaran penyakit TB Paru, sehingga dalam penanggulangan TB Paru yang komprehensif harus melibatkan faktor lingkungan fisik dalam rumah. Pada tahun 2004, cakupan rumah sehat di Kabupaten Muaro Jambi hanya 36.9%, hal ini di duga memperbesar timbulnya penularan TB Paru. Tujuan: Penelitian ini untuk melihat hubungan lingkungan fisik dalam rumah dengan kejadian TB Paru BTA (+) di Kabupaten Muaro Jambi tahun 2005. Metode: Desain studi kasus kontrol dengan 95 kasus yang diambil dari penderita TB Paru BTA (+) dari 18 Puskesmas di wilayah Kabupaten Muaro Jambi dan 95 kontrol yang diambil dari tetangga kasus dengan BTA (-). Hasil: Analisis multivariat lingkungan fisik dalam rumah yang berhubungan dengan kejadian TB Paru BTA (+) adalah: kelembaban rumah <40% atau >70% (OR:4,87;95%CI:1,58-15,04),ventilasi kamar <10% (OR:3,83 ; 95%C1:1,23-11,93), pencahayaan rumah
Background: Pulmonary TB, is an infective-contagious disease caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. More than 90% of global pulmonary TB cases occur in the developing countries. TB remains an important public health problem in Indonesia. The occurrence of pulmonary TB in Muaro Jambi District in the year of 2003 is 61,84 per 100.000 population and increased to 106,16 per 100.000 population in 2004. Physical Environment condition of the house is one factor that playing important role in Pulmonary TB spreading, especially the coverage of healthy housing in Muaro Jambi District only 36,9% in 2004. Objectives: to investigate the relation between physical environment of the house with occurrence of pulmonary TB in Muaro Jambi District. Methods: This case-control study design used 95 cases and 95 controls. Those respondents had been taken from 18 Primary Health Centers in Muaro Jambi District. Results: Based on multivariate analysis housing conditions that influenced the risk of pulmonary TB are : the level of humidity of the house less than 40% or more than 70% (OR:4,87;95%Cl: 1,58-15,04), bedroom ventilation less than 10% (OR;3,83;95% CI:1,23-11,93), house with low level of light exposure / less than 60 luks (OR:2,47;95%CI:0,55-11,16), kitchen ventilation less than 10% (OR:2,21;95%CI:0,8-6,13), house ventilation less than 10% (OR:2,2;95%C1:0,63-7,81), and bedroom with low level of light exposure/less than 60 luks (OR:1,61;95% CI: 0,37-7). Suggestion: TB control program in Muaro Jambi District should coordinates with other departments to improve housing designs and give health promotion activities about healthy house.
