The Province of Jakarta is is among the top five provinces in Indonesia with the highest proportion of electronic cigarette use, particularly among young people, including university students. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing electronic cigarette use behavior among college students in Jakarta by employing the Problem Behavior Theory (PBT) framework. This theory was selected because it effectively explains how deviant behaviors, including the use of addictive substances such as electronic cigarettes, are formed through complex interactions among individual factors, the social environment, and behavioral systems. The study involved 281 college students aged 20–24 years from the five administrative regions of Jakarta who served as respondents. Data were collected online and analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that 17.8% of respondents were active users of electronic cigarettes, 35.9% had tried using them, and 41% reported having quit. Among active users, 56% used electronic cigarettes daily, and most had been using them for more than two years. The primary reasons for using electronic cigarettes included taste, aroma, convenience, and the perception of e-cigarettes as an alternative to conventional cigarettes. Significant factors influencing electronic cigarette use behavior included gender, family structure, parental smoking behavior, congruence of values between parents and peers, and peer rejection of deviant behavior, with gender emerging as the most dominant factor, indicating that male students were more likely to use electronic cigarettes than female students. The recommendations focus on developing gender- and family-based health promotion modules in collaboration with universities, strengthening surveillance systems and smoke-free zones on campuses, utilizing digital and social media for educational outreach, empowering students as peer leaders and micro-influencers, and implementing participatory monitoring through digital feedback mechanisms. Further research using longitudinal approaches is recommended to better understand the long-term dynamics of electronic cigarette use behavior

This study aims to determine the relationship between the use of OFD services and other factors with the consumption of simple sugars in UI non-health students. The dependent variable in this study was the consumption of simple sugars and the independent variables were the frequency of using OFD services, duration of consumer loyalty, preference for foods and beverages high in sugar, gender, amount of pocket money, type of residence, physical activity, stress level, and knowledge of nutrition. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out in May 2023 for 125 non-medical students at the University of Indonesia using the quota sampling method. Data was collected through online questionnaire filling and offline SQ-FFQ interviews. The data obtained were then analyzed by univariate, bivariate using chi-square, and multivariate using multiple logistic regression tests. The results showed that 44.0% of respondents had a high consumption of simple sugar, i.e ≥50 grams per day. The results also show that the frequency of using OFD services, preferences for high sugar foods and drinks, type of residence, and knowledge of nutrition are related to consumption of simple sugars in UI non-health students. Multivariate analysis showed that the preference for high-sugar foods and drinks was the dominant factor associated with consumption of simple sugars among UI non-health students. Researchers suggest that students can limit consumption of sweet foods/drinks so they can avoid excessive weight gain which can lead to obesity. The researchers also suggested to Universitas Indonesia and the Depok’s Health Service to create a nutrition and health education program for college students related to simple sugars.

Nutrition labels and the Healthier Choice logo (which is a form of Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labeling/FOPNL in Indonesia) are aimed to help consumers choose healthier packaged foods. However, the practice of reading nutrition labels and the Healthier Choice logo remains low in Indonesia, especially among university students who are transitioning into adulthood and beginning to make independent dietary decisions. In addition, studies specifically discussing the Healthier Choice logo in Indonesia are still limited. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the practice of reading nutrition labels and the Healthier Choice logo among students of the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia (FPH UI) in 2025. A cross-sectional design and stratified random sampling technique were used. Data were collected through a self-administered online questionnaire in May 2025, involving 242 FPH UI students as respondents. Univariate analysis was conducted descriptively, while bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that 41.7% of respondents demonstrated good practices in reading nutrition labels and the Healthier Choice logo. Bivariate analysis revealed that the practice of reading nutrition labels and the Healthier Choice logo was significantly associated with attitudes toward the label and logo (p=0,002; OR 2,29; 95% CI 1,339-3,916), lifestyle (p<0,001; OR 3,15; 95% CI 1,850-5,358), label clarity and readability (p=0,023; OR 1,83; 95% CI 1,084-3,093), and social influence (p<0,001; OR 2,78; 95% CI 1,632-4,741). Students are encouraged to be more proactive in reading nutrition labels and recognizing the Healthier Choice logo. FPH UI is advised to increase education and exposure regarding these labels through campus media and internal policies. Regulators such as BPOM and the Ministry of Health need to expand the availability of products with the Healthier Choice logo, improve its design and visibility, and strengthen national promotion and evaluation of the logo’s implementation.

Obesity is the excessive accumulation of body fat that elevates the risk of non-communicable diseases. Compared to Body Mass Index (BMI), body fat percentage offers a more accurate measure of obesity. Based on health screening data from 2022 to 2024, the prevalence of obesity among FKM UI students reached 13.6%, surpassing the public health concern threshold. This study investigated the association between ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption, energy, fat, carbohydrate, protein, fiber intake, and sedentary behavior with obesity—measured by body fat percentage—among 147 FKM UI students in 2025. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design. Findings revealed an obesity prevalence of 12.9%. Significant associations were observed between obesity and the frequency of UPF consumption, UPF-derived energy intake, total energy, fat and protein intake, and sedentary behavior (p-value<0.05). Although fiber and carbohydrate intake were not statistically significant (p-value>0.05), both showed trends. These results highlight the importance of making healthier dietary choices and reducing sedentary time. FKM UI encouraged to promote a supportive campus environment for healthy lifestyles and establish nutrition monitoring initiatives. Future studies should incorporate objective tools to assess sedentary behavior and utilize multivariate analysis to better understand the interactions between those risk factors and obesity
