Benzene high exposure in working is environment always connected tohematology disorders. This is caused by hematology system is the most criticaltarget network toward benzene exposure through inhaling route. This study aimsto analyze the relation between urinary and leukocytes S-PMA level of informalshoes industrial workers exposed to benzene. This study uses cross sectionaldesign in six informal shoes industries which are located in Cibaduyut with thenumber of sample of 64 workers. Urinary and blood samples are collected on eachsample to measure urinary S-PMA level and the number of leukocytes. Urinary S-PMA level is measured using Automated Hematology Analyzer. Individualcharacteristic data are obtained through direct interview. To measure benzeneconcentration, secondary data of previous study is used. The result of the studyindicates that there is significant correlation between S-PMA level withleukocytes (p value: 0.048) and urinary S-PMA level with the type of job (p value:0.004). By 31.3% workers have urinary S-PMA level more than BEI ACGIH (>25μg/g creatinine). The higher the benzene concentration of indoor air, the moreworkers have urinary S-PMA level > 25 μg/g creatinine. The result of doublelinear regression test finds that there is association tendency between urinary andleukocytes S-PMA level, after it is controlled by type of job, time of work perday, and exercising habit variables. It can be concluded that there is associationbetween urinary S-PMA level and the number of leukocytes decrease.Keywords: benzene, S-phenylmercapturid acid, leukocytes, informal shoesindustries
Chromium is a heavy metal that is widely used in industrial activities. Use of chromiumin the metal plating industry pose a risk to workers' health comes from exposure tochromium in the air working environment. This study aimed to analyze the relationshipbetween chromium levels in urine levels of albumin in the urine as a biomarker ofkidney damage. This study was conducted on 33 workers exposed and 33 unexposedworkers with cross sectional sedain. Urine samples were taken to assess levels ofchromium and albumin. Chromium levels in urine were measured using the methodAtomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) with burning techniques (flame, FAAS) andalbumin in urine is measured by means of immunoturbidimetric assay. A middle value(median) level of chromium in the urine of workers exposed at 5 g / L and theunexposed workers are also at 5 ug / L. A middle value (median) level of albumin inthe urine in workers exposed at 2.5 mg / g creatinine higher than the levels of albuminin the unexposed workers is equal to 1.5 mg / g creatinine. Any increase in thechromium content of 1 ug / L occurred rising levels of 3,82 mg albumin / g creatinineafter the controlled variable history of diabetes, history of hypertension, smokinghabits, length of employment, and consumption of alcohol. The results of this studyconcluded there was an effect of chromium exposure with impaired renal function (p>0.05).Keywords; albumin, kidney damage, chromium, electroplating.
Mercury (Hydragyrum) is a harmful heavy metal naturally occurring andhuman activities, can cause environmental pollution and health problems inhumans. The impact of mercury poisoning are acute (disorders of the digestivesystem, skin and nerves) and chronic (tremor and parkinsonism). Currently heavymetal pollution is a major threat to the environment and should be controlled so asnot to exceed the limits of its existence.This research aims to knowing mercury poisoning related to consumptionof fish to the community in the area of small-scale gold mining (SSGM) DesaLebaksitu Kecamatan Lebakgedong Kabupaten Lebak Provinsi Banten.Type of research was analitic, cross-sectional study design. Measurementof the consumption of fish, the characteristics of respondent and mercury levels inhair. The population research is the community Desa Lebaksitu and a sample of60 people. Data were analyzed by chi-square test, mann-whitney and logisticregression.The result showed, the prevalence of mercury poisoning in the communityof 51.7%, consumption rate (high consumption) 55%. Consumption of fish, age,occupation, length of stay, distance from the house and the source of drinkingwater were significant correlation to mercury poisoning. While Smoking and sexcorrelation insignificant toward mercury poisoning. Source of drinking water isthe most dominant risk factors that may affect the consumption of fish againstmercury poisoning (OR = 14,693, 95% CI=1,818-118,769).
Introduction: Benzo(a)pyrene is a class of PAH which is classified as a carcinogenic compound (probably carcinogenic) in humans and animals. After exposure, benzo(a)pyrene which enters the human body through inhalation pathways, is directly absorbed in the body and distributed in the lungs, skin, and liver, then binds to DNA, RNA, and protein. After entering the human body and biotransformation, benzo(a)pyrene is excreted in the form of hydroxylated metabolites in urine or feces. 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHP) in urine is the most common metabolite used as exposure biomarkers of benzo(a)pyrene compounds. Benzo(a)pyrene concentration measurements were carried out at three points in each school using tube sorbents with charcoal filters and analyzed using the fluorescence method. Analysis of 1-hydroxypyrene in urine is carried out using HPLC with a fluorescence detector. Objective: To see the relationship of exposure to benzo(a)pyrene to urine 1-hydroxypyrene concentration. Method: This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design, the sample in this study amounted to 76 people, the sample distribution was made by probability proportional to size (PPS), the sampling used purposive sampling. Results: The average BaP concentration in the indoor air of public elementary schools around the West Jakarta's main road segment is 0.0059 mg/m3, and the average BaP concentration in outdoor air is 0.0031 mg/m3. The average BaP concentration in indoor air in high exposed schools is 5.6 times higher (0.0102 mg/m3) compared to schools exposed to a low exposure (0.0018 mg/m3). The average 1-OHP concentration in the urine of public elementary school students around the West Jakarta main road segment is 12.146 µmol/mol creatinine. The average concentration of 1-OHP in the urine of high-exposed school students was 1.2 times greater (13,363 µmol/mol creatinine) compared to low-exposed schools (10,929 µmol/mol creatinine). Conclusion: The relationship of BaP exposure in indoor air to the concentration of 1-OHP in the urine of students was positively patterned where there was a positive correlation between BaP exposure in indoor air to an increase in 1-OHP concentration in the urine of students (r = 0.229) meaning higher exposure to indoor air the higher the concentration of 1-OHP in the urine of students. The results of the statistical test explained that there was a significant relationship between exposure to BaP in indoor air and the concentration of 1-OHP in the urine of students (p = 0.046).
Infeksi Saluran Pernapasan Akut (ISPA) merupakan masalah kesehatan pertama pada sepuluh data penyakit terbesar di Desa Padabeunghar Kecamatan Jampangtengah Kabupaten Sukabumi. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh adanya kegiatan industri kapur. Tujuan studi ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan pajanan PM10 terhadap gangguan iritasi dan infeksi saluran pernapasan yang dialami oleh penduduk dengan menggunakan rancangan studi potong lintang (cross sectional). Sebanyak 30 RT terpilih sebagai cluster dan mencakup 334 penduduk sebagai responden. Analisis data menggunakan uji kai kuadrat dan uji regresi logistik ganda. Hasil penelitian diperoleh Konsentrasi PM10 0.017 – 1.101 mg/m 3 dengan rata- 3 rata 0.292 mg/m . Jumlah responden yang mengalami gangguan pernapasan 107 orang (32%). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan ada hubungan antara Konsentrasi PM10 (p=0.0005), Intake PM10 (p=0.005), lama tinggal (p=0.029), bahan bakar memasak (p=0.044) dan anggota keluarga mengalami gangguan pernapasan (p=0.018) dengan gangguan saluran pernapasan penduduk. Hasil uji regresi logistik ganda model faktor risiko menunjukkan adanya hubungan antara konsentrasi PM10 udara ambien dengan gangguan saluran pernapasan nilai (OR=2.4 ; 95% CI : 1.168 – 5.078). Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is defined as the first health problem amongst the worst 10 health problems in Padabeunghar Village, Sub District of Jampangtengah in the regency of Sukabumi. It is due to the limestone industry activities in this area. This study was to perceive the relationship between the exposure of PM10 and respiratory irritation and infection, which was being suffered by the people, using Cross Sectional approach. As many as 30 neighbourhood associations had been selected as a cluster with 334 respondents. Chi Square and Double Logistic Regression Tests were used for data analysis. Experimental results showed that PM10 concentration ranged between 0.017 – 1.101 mg/m 3 with the average of 0.292 mg/m 3 . Number of respondents that were suffered respiration tract disorder is 107 (32%). The results showed the correlations amongst concentration of PM10 (p=0.0005), intake PM10 (p=0.005), exposure period (p=0.029), cooking fuel (p=0.044), and family members experiencing respiratory infections (p=0.018) with the respiration infected people. Double logistic regression test yields risk factor model OR=2.4 (95% CI: 1.168 – 5.078) for correlation between concentration of PM10 air ambient and respiration infections.
