Background: Isolated Systolic Hypertension (HST) is defined as a condition where the systolic blood pressure is ≥140 mmHg while the diastolic blood pressure is <90 mmHg. HST is considered a phenomenon of aging, is the most dangerous type of hypertension because it responds weakly to antihypertensive drugs. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the associated factors and dominant factors associated with HST, with a cross-sectional research design. Method: The data used was Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018 with a sample of 18,599 (HST and normal) and 1,471 HST subjects, and analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression. Results: The results of this study showed that 7.9% of samples experienced isolated systolic hypertension (HST), with 85% of samples experiencing HST grade I, 12.8% HST grade II, and 8.8% HST grade III; there is a significant relationship between age, gender, education level, employment status, marital status, obesity, central obesity, psychological stress, diabetes mellitus, consumption of salty foods, consumption of fatty foods, and physical activity on the incidence of HST, and there is no relationship between consumption of fruit, vegetable consumption, smoking habits with the incidence of HST in Indonesia in 2018. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that the level of education that is the dominant factor in the incidence of HST in Indonesia is the level of education (OR = 2.14) after controlling for the smoking habit variable.
Hypertension in adolescents has increased and led to an increase in various other degenerative diseases when adults. The purpose of this study was to determine the most dominant factor that related to the incidence of prehypertension and hypertension in adolescents aged 15-18 years old at SMA Negeri 3 Kisaran Asahan District North Sumatra in 2016. The study used cross-sectional design which was conducted on 145 respondents of 10th and 11th grader. The dependent variables in this study is hypertension and prehypertension, while independent variables were gender, family history of hypertension, nutritional status, energy intake, fat intake, sodium intake, fiber intake, physical activity, smoking, stress and sleep duration. The results showed that the prevalence of prehypertension and hypertension were 42,1% and 12,4% respectively. Based on the bivariate analysis, there were significant differences between prehypertension and hyepertension based on sex (p value = 0,005), family history of hypertension (p value = 0,040), nutritional status (p value = 0,012), fat intake (p value = 0,036), sodium intake (p value = 0,031), fiber intake (p value = 0,010), physical activity (p value = 0,044), stress (p value = 0,043), and sleep duration (p value = 0,023). While based on the multiariate analysis, the dominant factor of prehypertension and hypertension was physical activity. Further research is needed to examine the relationship of causality on these factors and to explore whether there other dominant factor of prehypertension and hypertension among adolescents. The author suggests that the students should routinely check the blood pressure measurements at least once a month, exercise at least three times a week, monitoring the body weight at least once a month to maintain good nutrional status, and keep the intake of nutritionts by eating foods according to balanced nutriotional guidelines.
Poltekkes Kemenkes Jakarta II tahun 2025.
Pengumpulan
data dilakukan menggunakan tensimeter digital, timbangan, microtoise, BIA, pita ukur,
kuesioner, dan food recall 2x24 jam. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji chi-square
dan regresi logistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan proporsi kejadian
hipertensi berdasarkan riwayat hipertensi keluarga (p=0,008; OR=2,374), durasi tidur
(p=0,013; OR=0,392), IMT/U (p=0,030; OR=2,411), persen lemak tubuh (p<0,001;
OR=3,942), lingkar perut (p<0,001; OR=3,942), dan asupan energi (p=0,033;
OR=2,243).
Hypertension, which commonly occurs in older adults, is now showing an increasing trend among adolescents. This rising prevalence is suspected to be related to increased exposure to risk factors such as obesity, high salt intake, physical inactivity, and low consumption of fruits and vegetables. This study aimed to identify the distribution and dominant factors associated with the incidence of hypertension among students at Poltekkes Kemenkes Jakarta II in 2025. This is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design and primary data, with students as the research subjects. A total of 124 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling proportionally based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using a digital sphygmomanometer, weighing scale, microtoise, BIA, measuring tape, questionnaire, and 2x24-hour food recall. Data analysis was performed using chi-square and logistic regression tests. The results showed significant differences in hypertension incidence based on family history of hypertension (p=0.008; OR=2.374), sleep duration (p=0.013; OR=0.392), BMI-for-age (p=0.030; OR=2.411), body fat percentage (p<0.001; OR=3.942), waist circumference (p<0.001; OR=3.942), and energy intake (p=0.033; OR=3.430). Multivariate analysis indicated that the dominant factor associated with hypertension was body fat percentage (p=0.012; OR=4.639; 95% CI=1.397–15.409). High body fat percentage was found to be the dominant factor associated with hypertension among students.
