Awkward postures while working can cause complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). Almost all of the workers interviewed, at the production department convection complained of stiffness and pain in the limbs.
This thesis discusses issues that are often perceived grievances of workers in some parts of the body such as the neck, spine and shoulder Screw on installation worker at Factory Assembly PT. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) have the highest proportion of 45% - 91 % in most countries (Eurostat,2004; Aweto 2015). Awkward posture is the main cause of this MSDs. Chemical Process Industry is one work station in which awkward work posture is often found. The present study discusses more thoroughly on risk factor on awkward posture as information and basic model for ergonomic improvement at PT X. The risk factors studied included risk factor of individual, work and workplace design. This study uses descriptive qualitative analysis using oberservational approach. Instrument used was Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) with interview, observation and measurement. The study was conducted at 2 (two) work stations namely Toluenesulfonyl Hydrazide (TSH) and Azodicarbonamide (ADCA) reaction. Research result revealed that the most risky work posture was in weighing and packaging activity of Azodicarbonamide in the ADCA work station with score of 15. Improvement using work rotation, work variation, ergonomic training and provision of tools is highly recommended to overcome awkward posture.
Manual handling is recognized as one of the occupational activities with a high risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This descriptive study aims to analyze the risk factors of manual handling tasks, specifically lifting and lowering loads by Stevedores. The research was conducted at a site owned by a logistic and port service company, involving 10 Stevedores as a sample. Musculoskeletal complaints were assessed using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), while risk levels associated with lifting activities were evaluated using the NIOSH Lifting Equation. The findings indicate that 6 out of 10 workers reported complaints related to musculoskeletal disorders. Additionally, 9 out of 10 workers were found to be at a moderate risk level during lifting activities, and 6 out of 10 were at a moderate risk level during lowering tasks. Environmental measurements revealed that the thermal work environment met regulatory standards, whereas lighting levels did not comply with the required thresholds.
