Hypertension has become the most common non-communicable disease globally. It is estimated that around 40% of the world's population has hypertension. Emotional stress is one of its modifiable risk factors. In productive age individuals, most of their time is spent at work so they are very vulnerable to being exposed to occupational stress which in a prolonged period will have an impact on the health of workers. A driver is one of ten types of work with high level of occupational stress. This study aims to determine the association of occupational stress with hypertension in workers who are private drivers in a transportation fleet company PT Prima Armada Raya DKI Jakarta. The cross-sectional study design was conducted on 229 workers who were active during May-June 2021. Work stress was assessed using a Stress Diagnosis Survey (SDS) 30 questionnaire which aims to assess several components such as role ambiguity, role conflict, quantitative-work overload, qualitative-work overload, career development and responsibility towards others. The results of multivariate analysis showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between work stress and hypertension (PR 8.345 (95% CI: 1.010-68.946; p-value: 0.049) after being controlled by covariate variables, namely age, smoking habits, alcohol consumption, level of physical activity, history of family hypertension and obesity. Periodic medical check-up programs and work stress management are important as interventions in preventing the occurrence of hypertension due to occupational stress. Further research on other types of professions may need to be done
Work distress among Electric Rail Train (KRL) drivers is an important issue in urban mass transportation systems because it has the potential to reduce operational safety, work performance, and workers’ psychological well-being. The increasing number of KRL passengers in the Greater Jakarta area, accompanied by high operational demands, shift work systems, punctuality pressure, and technology-based work complexity, is suspected to increase psychosocial hazard exposure among train drivers. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between personal risk factors and occupational risk factors with work distress among KRL drivers of PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia in the Greater Jakarta operational area in 2026. This study employed a quantitative design with a descriptive-analytic and cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 440 train drivers, with a sample of 231 respondents selected using a quota accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, including the NIOSH Generic Job Stress Questionnaire (NIOSH GJSQ), ICAWS, NASA-TLX, JCQ, Job Insecurity Questionnaire, and IFRC. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with simple Poisson regression to obtain the Prevalence Ratio (PR), and multivariate analysis using modified Poisson regression with robust variance at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that 47.2% of train drivers experienced work distress. Personal factors such as age, marital status, educational level, years of service, and health status were not significantly associated with work distress, while work fatigue was only significant in the bivariate analysis. Occupational factors including workplace conflict, excessive workload, low workload, job control, and job security were significantly associated with work distress in the bivariate analysis. However, multivariate analysis revealed that only workplace conflict (p=0.012: Adjusted PR=0.896: 95% CI=0.822–0.976) and job security (p<0.001: Adjusted PR=0.803: 95% CI=0.744–0.866) were dominant factors associated with work distress among KRL drivers in the Greater Jakarta area. This study concludes that nearly half of KRL drivers experienced work distress and that occupational factors were the primary determinants. Therefore, Occupational Health and Safety based interventions are needed to control psychosocial hazards, strengthen job security, and create a supportive work environment in order to improve operational safety and the psychological well-being of train drivers. Noise becomes a risk factor of causing occupational disease with the proportion of30-50% in Indonesia. One of the health effects caused by noise in the workplaceis hypertension. This study aims to determine the relationship between noiseexposure in the workplace with incidence of hypertension in the refrigeratorproduction machine workers at PT LG Electronics Indonesia, Tangerang in 2013.This research used a cross-sectional study design. Number of samples 344workers production machine refrigerator that exceeds Threshold Limit Value(TLV) of noise, determining the number of samples by using purposive samplingmethod. The results showed a significant relationship between noise exposure inthe workplace with incidence of hypertension (p < 0.05), and also affected byother risk factors, namely age, family history of hypertension, Body Mass Index(BMI), and smoking habits.
